This is Where
I Change My Story
Gentle Path at The Meadows helps men change the core of who they are, without distraction from the outside world.
Dr. Patrick Carnes’ methodology is integrated with The Meadows Model and The Meadows’ signature Survivors Week to concurrently address sexual addiction and trauma to transform your life.
This is How
We Can Help
We understand the very personal struggles men with sexual and multiple addictive disorders face and provide a place of understanding.
Our patients benefit from Dr. Patrick Carnes’ years of research in the sex addiction field that has contributed to the advancement of treatment. His extensive knowledge, assessment tools, and related materials deliver an unprecedented approach to sexual addiction and trauma.
Family Week
Family recovery and support are indispensable components of recovery from sex addiction. Throughout a loved one’s treatment, our experienced staff maintains appropriate contact with the family, preparing them and the patient for the challenges of returning home and preventing unwanted relapse. Our Family Week Workshop may be offered to family members, who join their loved one at the designated time during treatment. Family Week includes psychoeducational groups, skill groups, such as boundary setting and healthy communications, as well as experiential (on and off campus) geared toward recovery of the entire family system and not just the person in treatment. This is a time of learning, growth, change, and forgiveness for everyone. It helps ensure the transition back to daily life is successful.
Learn MoreExperiential Therapy
Gentle Path offers a number of Experiential Therapies including Ropes Course, and Equine Therapy that incorporates activities for emotional growth and learning. Equine Therapy, for example, is a collaborative effort between a licensed therapist and a horse professional working with the clients and horses to address treatment goals. The basis of the Equine Therapy is a belief that all clients have the best solutions for themselves when given the opportunity to discover them. Rather than instructing or directing solutions, we allow our clients to experiment, problem-solve, take risks, employ creativity and find their own solutions that work best for them.
Learn MoreCo-Occurring
Gentle Path is a world leader in handling substance addiction and other co-occurring conditions that often accompany sex addiction. Our expertise in addiction treatment can assist a patient on multiple levels. All treatment team members have advanced training in the treatment of substance use disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and other challenges that patients are frequently experiencing. Detox from substances is available onsite and incoming patients are welcomed into the treatment community from the time of their arrival.
Learn More30-Task Model
Dr. Patrick Carnes serves as the Clinical Architect of the program at Gentle Path and his Task-Based Treatment Model is the foundation of the work done here. Dr. Carnes is the nation’s preeminent authority on sex addiction and continues to provide leadership for the team and interaction with patients. Our clinicians are trained as CSAT (Certified Sex Addiction Therapists) and certified by the renowned International Institute for Addiction Treatment Professionals (IITAP), which is recognized around the world as the gold standard for the training of therapists for the treatment of sex addiction and co-occurring issues.
Learn MoreBrain Center
The neurological impact of addiction cannot be overstated. At Gentle Path, patients have the opportunity to engage in neurofeedback therapy, cranial electrical stimulation, and several additional programs specifically designed to help regulate brain activity and assist the patient in the development of new neuropathways that will empower them in their recovery. Our professional technicians are well versed in the latest neurofeedback technologies and interact with the entire treatment team in providing updates and recommendations for other therapeutic modalities.
Learn MoreTrauma
Pia Mellody who serves as Senior Fellow at The Meadows developed the Developmental Model of Immaturity, in the 1970s. This groundbreaking model is utilized at Gentle Path. Pia found that she was encountering an increasing number of patients who identified with less than nurturing, abusive family systems in their childhood – leading to adulthood behaviors of codependency. The codependency patterns translated into addictions, mood disorders and physical illness. Our skilled Trauma Therapists provide a variety of protocols for patients dealing with trauma including Survivor’s Week, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Yoga, Tai Chi, Acupuncture and others based on the unique needs of each client. Trauma work is crucial to long-term success in recovery.
